DTI EXPORT MARKETING INCENTIVES

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) has incentive schemes available for export marketing, trade and investment opportunities, SMME development and other economic empowerment initiatives. With boatbuilding included as a priority sector in the national Industrial Policy Action Plan, qualifying boating industry members are most welcome to participate in these export development initiatives.

Incentive schemes for export marketing are divided into Individual offerings and Group offerings.


INDIVIDUAL OFFERINGS INCLUDE:


Individual Exhibitions, i.e. participating at a trade show/expo in your target market,

Primary Market Research to partially compensate exporters for costs incurred in developing new export markets and or in recruiting foreign direct investment (fdi) into South Africa by visiting potential investors in foreign countries, and

Individual Inward Mission for buyers/investors, which must be organised by an industry body.

Individual offerings are capped at 3 applications per applicant per calendar year. Applications must be submitted at least 2 months before event date. Applicants should have traded for more than one year, and product exporters must be registered for exporting.

Upon funding approval from the dti, the participant must incur the applicable costs and claim reimbursement from the dti afterward.

Upon funding approval, the following allowances are granted for reimbursement:

Return Economy Class Airfare R17,000 maximum

Subsistence Costs R2,300 per day (accommodation, meals, transfers etc)

Transport of Samples R20,000 maximum

Exhibition Costs R50,000 total and maximum (space rental, construction, furniture, any marketing material etc)

GROUP OFFERINGS INCLUDE:

National Pavilions, whereby dti participates in selected trade fairs and exhibitions abroad. Closing dates for applications to participate in a National Pavilion, is usually 6 months before the event date.


Upcoming National Pavilions still open for application:

Feira International de Angola (FILDA), 21-26 July, closing date 20 March.

Feira Internacional de Maputo (FACIM), 25-31 August, closing date 24 April.

Group Inward Buying/Investment Mission for organisers of Inward Buying/Investment Missions to facilitate foreign direct investment into South Africa.

Outward Selling/Investment Mission for South African enterprises participating in Outward Buying/Investment Missions with a view to encourage and attract foreign direct investment into South Africa.

Upon approval of your participation, the dti and or industry organisation facilitates the logistics of the mission/pavilion and incurs most of the costs beforehand, with only the subsistence allowance to be claimed by the participant afterward.
